The following men have recently been appointed squad captains in the various field events: running high jump, R. G. Harwood '09; running broad jump, P. C. Haskell '08; pole vault, E. L. Parker '10; shot put, B. T. Stephenson, Jr., '08; hammer throw, H. M. Gilmore '08. These captains have been appointed by Captain Dodge, Manager Emerson, and Coach Quinn in order to increase the interest and facilities for coaching the men as a class in each event.
The duties of the captains will be to look up every possible candidate for their particular events and make them feel the necessity of regular work. The captains will also arrange an hour on two afternoons each week when their candidates can practice together, and so receive coaching as a class and improve together. This will furnish an excellent opportunity for inexperienced men to see good men work.
The immediate object in view of this work is to develop men for the open indoor handicap games to be held in the Park Square Garden on Wednesday, December 4, in which 31 men have been entered, and later for the Boston Athletic Association meet on February 1.
A match in putting the 8-pound shot has been arranged for the Park Square Garden meet between B. T. Stephenson, Jr., '08, and W. W. Coe, of the Boston Athletic Association, the champion in this event. Only these two entries will be made in this match, and a gold medal will be awarded to the winner.
