The University and second football teams were given a lay-off after Wednesday's game and a long practice drill was held in place of a scrimmage yesterday. Coach Cutts had several squads of line-men at work falling on the ball, breaking through, running down under kicks and blocking off. A squad of linemen, including Grant, Nourse, Burr, Fish, Newhall, Starr, Brennan, Butt, Cutting, and Wendell, were under the charge of Coach Daly who drilled them in delayed passing and straight line bucks, and paid particular attention to the tackles running from position through the other side of the line. Leary coached the ends, Bird, Forster, Houston, and Blumer, in catching forward passes, Bird making some excellent catches. He seems particularly suited for such work, and should prove a valuable end on that account.
Parker practiced kicking from placement, and out of ten tries put the ball over the goal seven times from the 30-yard line. Newhall kicked several drops from the 25-yard line.
A number of the men are laid up temporarily with slight injuries. Burr, although reporting for practice, was unable to do any punting on account of a sore foot. Mason, Macdonald, Kennard, and Apollonio have lame thighs, and Brock is handicapped by a weak ankle. Lockwood and M. C. Peirce were also given a lay-off.
