Harvard Bed in Dr. Grenfell's Hospitals

[We invite all men in the University to submit communications on subjects of timely interest. The Crimson is not however, responsible for the sentiments expressed in such communications as may be printed.]

To the Editors of the CRIMSON:

Please permit me to report the result of the subscription for the endowment of the Harvard Bed in Dr. Grenfell's hospitals in Labrador.

The first subscription was taken in the spring of the year 1905. At that time the amount subscribed was $641. This was turned in to Dr. Grenfell's treasurer, and was by him placed at interest at two per cent. On Sept. 6, 1907, the interest on this first subscription amounted to $29.37, making the total value of the first subscription, $670.37. A second subscription, looking toward the completion of the endowment of the bed, was taken during the past spring. During the spring and early summer a total of $336.50 was collected. Very shortly after this had been turned in, a generous subscription was received from an undergraduate, of $550. This made the total amount subscribed, with interest on the first subscription, $1556.37. The amount necessary to endow the bed is $1500. The amount above the necessary amount for the endowment of the bed will, no doubt provide a patient with some comforts, as comforts are reckoned in that desolate region.

Please permit me, on behalf of Dr. Grenfell, and of the University in whose name the subscription is made, to thank those who have so generously subscribed to this most worthy and attractive cause. WALLACE C. SABINE.
