HARVARD, 4; PENNSYLVANIA, 0

Errorless Fielding and Clever Base Running by University Team.

On Saturday afternoon the University baseball team won its second annual game with the University of Pennsylvania by a score of 4 to 0.

Up to the third inning the play was closely matched, although the University team advanced the greater number of men to the bases. In the fourth, however, Harvard scored one run, added two more in the sixth, and one in the eighth, while Pennsylvania reached third base but once during the entire game. With two out Hare made a three-bagger, the longest hit of the game, in the sixth inning, but the fast fielding of the University team held him at third, an Adams sent an easy ball to the pitcher. This was Pennsylvania's only chance to score.

The University team, despite the oppressive heat, played a fast game in the field and on the bases, and gave Castle excellent support. The Harvard pitcher was batted as hard as was Hay, and for a total of more bases, but Pennsylvania fielded listlessly, and the Harvard players took full advantage of every opportunity.

Castle and Hay were equally effective, the former striking out five men and the latter six. Castle did not have as good control as in the Brown game, and gave four men their bases on balls. He fielded his position well, however, and ran four men out at first. Currier was fast and wide awake, held Castle well, and made one accurate throw to second in the first inning, catching Yerkes by several feet. The infield without exception played an errorless game. Simons, besides accepting his only chance, made a clean single, sending McCall to third, from where he scored on a wild pitch. McCall and Leonard played with their usual speed. Of the outfield Harvey had the most chances, and made one splendid catch of Hay's drive over shortstop. Dexter made a fast throw to second base in the fourth and caught Hare off the base, after Thomas had singled to left field.

Yerkes opened well for Pennsylvania with a single, but Hare and Adams struck out, and Carrier threw Yerkes out at second. In Harvard's half of the first Leonard reached third on Dexter's scratch bit, but McCull struck out, retiring the side. Thomas singled in the second inning and was sacrificed to second, after Fennell had struck out. Webbsent an easy bail to Stephenson.

In the third inning both teams went out in succession, but in the last of the fourth the University team scored. Dexter singled to right field. McCall reached second on an error by the first baseman on which Dexter went to third, and from there he scored a moment later on a fly to the outfield by Simons. Currier sent a ground ball to Thomas who threw McCall out at the plate. Harvey went out, pitcher to first.

Although Hare made a three-base hit in the first of the sixth, Pennsylvania did not score. In the last half of the same inning Pounds flied out to Adams. Dexter followed with a two-base hit and went to third on a passed ball that gave McCall his base. The latter drew a throw to second, and Dexter stole home, McCall reaching second on the throw to the plate. From there he scored on a passed ball and a wild pitch.

One more run was added in the eighth inning, when McCall got a base on balls, went to third on a single by Simons, and scored on a wild pitch. In the first of the ninth with two men out, Fennell got a base on balls, but Judd struck out.
