The University baseball team lost to Williams yesterday afternoon by a score of 5 to 2. All of Williams's runs were made in the third inning after two men had been put out; when errors by Hartford and Harvey, and two safe hits gave Williams a lead which the University team was unable to overcome. With the exception of Leonard and Dexter the Harvard players were weak at the bat, and fielded loosely at critical moments. Hartford pitched a headless game, but Castle, who replaced him in the fourth inning pitched effectively, striking out nine men and allowing no bases on balls.
In the third inning, Waters received a base on balls. Harmon then bunted to Hartford, who threw the ball over McCarty's head. Hartford steadied down, striking out Ford and Wadsworth in succession. Warren, the next man up, with two strikes called made a long single, scoring Waters and Harmon. Hartford then gave Young his base, and he and Warren executed a double steal. Neild reached first on a third strike at a wild pitch, Warren scoring on the same play. Young scored on Hogan's single, and Neild came in on Harvey's muff of Stephenson's throw to second. Osterhout sent a grounder to McCarty, retiring the side.
