At the call for freshman baseball candidates, issued on Monday, 42 men reported and during last week were given light practice in the university cage under the direction of Captain Reid '06 and Coach W. B. Cosgrove '04. The squad, however, was cut down twice, and now consists of only 16 men. Among this number are several very promising candidates, and the ability of the squad as a whole makes the prospects for a strong team especially good.
At the Fordham University indoor games, the university track team won the banner, securing three firsts, one second and two third places. The first places were won by Captain W. M. Armstrong '07 in the scratch 70-yard hurdles: L. H. Simons '08 in the novice 70-yard dash: and R. A. Gamble '09 in the handicap 70 yard dash. L. Goodrich '06 and H. L. Moore '07 won second and third places, respectively, in the pole vault. The relay team secured only third place.
On last Friday evening the University wrestling team had a return meet with Pennsylvania, and won by the score of five matches to two. On the same night the University fencing team was defeated by Cornell, winning four and losing five bouts. The association football team defeated the Mount Washington Club on Saturday afternoon by the score of 2 to 1. On Friday and Saturday evenings, the university gymnastics team participated in two meets. The first of these was a dual meet with New York University, which was lost by a score of 26 points to 22. The second was an exhibition meet with Lehigh, given in the Lehigh Gymnasium.
A. L. Zahniser '07 was unanimously reelected captain of next year's hockey team.
The second annual Yale-Princeton freshman debate will be held in Princeton on April 6. The question is: "Resolved. That the principle of Intervention, enumerated in the pending treaty with Santo Domingo, should be rejected by the United States.
