The University hockey team in its third intercollegiate game defeated Brown on the Stadium Rink yesterday by the score of 4 to 0. Although poorly-played and rough, the game was very interesting. For the first few minutes the University team was clearly outplayed, and only the good work of the defense prevented Brown from scoring. Both sides relied on individual work and shot wildly when near their opponent's goal. After five minutes of play Townsend scored the only goal of the half on a long shot. Most of the rest of the period the puck was in Harvard's territory, but the Brown forwards shot poorly and did not accept their chances. Willetts was laid off two minutes on account of rough play.
In the second half the work of the University team improved greatly, but the play on both sides became extremely rough. Fraser-Campbell took M. New hall's place and soon after scored from a scrimmage. During the latter part of this half the forwards worked together well and the team play was good. Macleod made the third goal on a pretty pass from Townsend. At this point Fraser-Campbell, Paine and Chase were ruled off for rough play. Pell shot the final goal.
The University team was weak in passing and the forwards failed to keep their positions. On the whole there was very little team work. Captain Newhall played a strong game, but missed several easy shots.
The summary: Score--Harvard, 4; Brown 0. Goals--Townsend, Fraser-Campbell, Macleod, Pell. Referee--Dr. F. C. Goodridge '98. Umpires--S. M. Edgell '07, H. B. Chase of Brown. Time--20-minute halves. In a short practice line-up, after the game, Willetts received an injury to his wrist which will probably keep him from playing again this year. The present standing of the team in the intercollegiate hockey series is as follows:
