Last night a meeting was held in the Assembly Room of Dane Hall to open formally the new debating headquarters there. E. M. Rabenold 2L. presided, and speeches were made by Professor G. P. Baker '87, Hon. A. S. Hayes '91, R. T. Parke '98, and M. A. Ballantine 2L.
The question for the debate with Yale to be held in New Haven on March 30 was decided on last night and is as follows: "Resolvea, That it would be for the best interests of New York City to own its street railway system, the term street railway being taken to mean elevated, surface, and subway lines."
The first trial to select the team will be held in the Assembly Room of Dane Hall next Tuesday at 7 o'clock. Each man will be allowed five minutes in which to speak upon either side of the question. From twelve to fifteen men will be retained. The second trial will be held in the same place on Friday, February 23, at 7 o'clock; and each man retained at the first trial will be given ten minutes to speak. At this trial six men will be retained for the final trial, Tuesday, February 27. The undergraduate who shows the most ability at the three trials will be awarded the Coolidge debating prize of $100.
