HARVARD WON BASKETBALL

With Worcester Polytechnic, 42 to 8.--Freshman Game.

The University basketball team won its seventh consecutive victory by defeating the Worcester Polytechnic Institute in the Gymnasium last night by a score of 42 to 8. Considering the fact that Captain Griffiths was not in the game on account of a strained muscle in his arm, the showing of the Harvard players was remarkably good. Both sides played roughly at times, which prevented effective team play, but the University players covered more closely and kept their opponents from scoring from the floor. In shooting the University team was very wild at first and did not take advantage of their opportunities, Quigley alone being accurate.

In the first half the Harvard team was slow and careless and seemed dazed by the fast work of the Worcester players. The formation plays were easily broken up and for a time Harvard was outclassed. After desperate work on the defense and several good shots from the floor, the University team took the lead. At the end of the first half the score stood 12 to 3 in Harvard's favor.

The second half was much faster, the team play was exceptionally good, and 00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000.......the shooting more accurate. Four successful formation plays in quick succession increased Harvard's lead. The men did not depend so much upon individual shooting, but passed fast and accurately. There were an inexcusably large number of fouls for holding and rough play, but Worcester did not take advantage of all the free throws that resulted. McCarthy, who replaced Quigley at the end of the second half, played well.

Playing before the University game and between its halves, the Freshman basketball team defeated the Boston College Preparatory School by a score of 44 to 10. The Freshmen played a strong game at first and gained a long lead, but slackened play in the last half, when both teams played wildly. Dial did the best work for the Freshmen, scoring 11 baskets from the floor.
