The fourth and last football mass meeting, which was held last evening in the Living Room of the Union, was marked with exceptional enthusiasm, and an attendance limited only by the capacity of the room and the adjoining hallways. More than half an hour before the beginning of the meeting all available space was occupied.
Captain Foster, the first speaker, expressed his sincere thanks for the support given the team so far, and said that if this same support is continued, it will show its results. He also spoke of the determination and feeling of unity and co-operation existing in the members of the team.
Coach Reid said that, since it was probably the last time he would speak in his present capacity, he wished to emphasize his appreciation of the splendid support given the team during the last two years. In speaking of coaching systems he asked that they should not be judged too much by results, the true test of a system being the use it makes of the material available. Changes of systems often prevent the correction of mistakes. There is every reason to believe that the present coaching system is moving in the right direction, and it should be carried out.
After the meeting a large parade was formed, and the men marched through the Yard and Mt. Auburn street.
The football song committee, at a meeting last night, decided that "The Gridiron King" should be declared winner of the competition. This song was written and composed by R. K. Fletcher '08, the composer of "On Soldiers Field." "Harvard's Victory," which came a very close second, and which will be sung at New Haven, was composed by P. H. Daggett '07, with words written by J. P. Soule '06.
