During the past week the practice of the University football squad has been secret and many of the graduate coaches have returned to help in the development of the team. Several of the regular men were on the side lines during the early part of the week, but the team was in good shape for Saturday's game with West Point. Harlan has developed unusual, ability in drop kicking from different angles, and it was by his kicking that Princeton secured its points in Saturday's game. The features of the game were the strong secondary defense of West Point and the remarkably fast game played by Hoagland and Wister at end.
The university tennis team was defeated last Tuesday by the West Side Tennis Club by the score of 8 to 0. The team played a good game but were entirely outclassed by their more experienced opponents, who won every match both in singles and doubles.
The first of the series of cross-country runs, which are to be held each week, was won by J. L. Eisele '07, who covered the intercollegiate course of six miles in 43 minutes and 15 seconds. J. H. Kelly '08 won second place with the time of 45 minutes 9 seconds.
The freshman football team was defeated by the Yale freshmen last Saturday by the score of 14 to 0. The Princeton men made a hard fight against a heavier team, but were outclassed in teamwork by their opponents. The score was made by two field goals by Wheaton and a touchdown by Philbin. Captain Jones of Princeton was not in the game because of an injured knee and his place of captain was filled by Sieghing, who played a very good game.
The arrangements which have been made for the southern trip of the musical clubs during the Christmas vacation, were announced last week. The departure from Princeton will be made on December 20, and the clubs will be gone until January 3. The following cities will be visited: Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, Richmond, Wilmington, Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah and Jacksonville.
The University Association football team was defeated by the Merion Cricket Club last Saturday by the score of 3 to 0.
