The governing committee of the Intercollegiate Chess League, of which Harvard, Yale, Columbia, and Princeton are members, has decided to challenge Oxford and Cambridge to a cable match for the Rice trophy. This match was formerly an annual affair, but has not been played since 1902. The team will consist of six men, chosen from the four members of the league on the basis of the work in the intercollegiate tournament. The American end of the match will be in New York, the British end in London. I. B. Rice, the well known chess expert and donator of the trophy, will finance the match, while W. Napier has consented to act as referee. A challenge, which will be sent in a few days, is now in charge of L. P. Wolff of Columbia.
