The football team played its first game of the season Saturday with Villa Nova, winning by the score of 24 to 0. Villa Nova's team was entirely outclassed by the heavier Princeton players. The game was marred by frequent penalties for offside play and considerable fumbling. The new forward pass was used a number of times, both teams securing some good gains by this means, although many passes failed. Princeton was more successful in this department, gaining two touchdowns on passes around left end. More kicking was in evidence than there was last year, the work of Hadan being especially good. The feature of the game was a seventy-yard run for a touchdown by Wister, Princeton. The game showed the success of the new rules in making the game more open; but it is evident that some time will elapse before the plays will go off as smoothly as under the old methods. Almost all the prominent candidates were given a trial in the second half of Saturday's game.
