Football practice has continued regularly during the past week. After the good showing made against Syracuse, the work of the University eleven against Springfield was in a measure disappointing. The forward pass proved unsuccessful in most instances. Much improvement was shown on Saturday, however, in the game with Holy Cross. Although the score of 17 to 0 did not intimate any brilliant playing, the work of the Yale team was more consistent and the line seemed much stronger.
The senior class officers were elected this week as follows: secretary, H. M. Woolsey of New Haven; poet, R. M. Edmonds of Springfield, Ohio; orator, E. H. Hart of Brooklyn; historian, W. L. Carter of West Newton.
Mr. Eugene Meyer of New York has given $5000 to the university to be used for the training of men for public service. This gift is to be added to the fund established several years ago by Mr. Meyer. The money has been used mainly in aiding student organizations, such as the Good Government Club and the debating clubs.
The Public Lecture Course just announced for the current year 1906-07 includes many eminent men. The series will consist of twenty-five lectures covering a wide range of topics on literature, art, music, drama and science.
Fall baseball practice for the university squad will cease next week. The practice this fall has consisted largely of regular games, with special attention given to batting.
