The graded crew race will be rowed at 6 o'clock this afternoon, upstream over the mile and seven-eights course. Men will report at their respective boathouses at 5 o'clock. Three crews have been entered in the race, the first Weld graded, the second Sophomore and the second Freshman crews. As its work during the past week has been the most satisfactory, the second Freshman crew seems most likely to win. Coaches Vail and Rice will judge at the start, and K. Howes '08 at the finish.
The crews will row in the following order:
Weid graded--Strokes, Travis; 7, Palmer; 6, Coleman; 5, Eaves; 4, Brown; 3, Lord; 2, Preston; bow, Walte; cox., Wells.
Second Sophomore--Stroke, Cate; 7, Bailey; 6, Lanahan; 5, Foss; 4, Davis; 3, Pery; 2, Brooks; bow, Evans; cox., Stone.
Second Freshman--Stroke, Henry; 7, Edwards; 6, Boyer; 5, Mason; 4, Bacon; 3, Parke; 2, Despard; bow, Comstock cox., Whitney.
The University Crew.
The University crew held a time row yesterday afternoon over the mile and seven-eighths course. The time, 9 minutes and 30 seconds, was good. From Harvard Bridge, the end of the first mile, the Freshman crew, which had been waiting for the University boat, started at a racing pace a length in the lead. The Freshman began with a high stroke of over 40, and gained three-quarters of length on the University boat. During the last quarter of a mile, however, the University eight made a spurt, and in the final stretch drew up rapidly on its opponents, the Freshman eight finishing a little over a length in the lead.
The crews rowed as follows:
University crew--Stroke, Shepard; 7, George; 6, Filley; 5, Lawson; 4, McLeod; 3, Flint; 3, Tappan; bow, Burchard; Cox., Chase.
Freshman crew--Stroke, Morgan; 7, Amberg; 6, Fish; 5, Warren; 4, Richardson; 3, Fahnestock; 2, Ball; bow, Wiggins; cox, Arnold.
The Four-Oar Crews
Yesterday afternoon the two four-Oar crews had a trial row over the seven-eighths of a mile course, commencing at Harvard Bridge and finishing at Longwood Bridge. Farley's crew secured a slight lead at the start, but Pleasonton's crew soon caught up and passed them by a length. They were unable, however, to maintain this gain, and finished only a few feet in the lead. The time was about 5 minutes and 20 seconds. As yet the orders of the four-oar crews have been provisional. From the result of the work yesterday, a first and second crew will be chosen this afternoon.
The orders yesterday:
First four-oar--Stroke, Farley; 3, Corlett; 2, Kellogg; bow, Gill; cox; Montgomery.
Second four-oar--Stroke, Pleasonton; 3, Meler; 2, Bacon; bow, Lilly; cox., Wiener.
