Football practice, which was rather light last week, has been for the most part secret and devoted to developing the defensive play. To this end scrimmages have been played almost every day with the scrub, but the defence still leaves much to be desired. For the final training for the Princeton and Harvard games evening signal practice on the floor of the Gymnasium has been added to the regular work of the squad.

R. Seldon Rose has been elected captain of the freshman football team.

A number of mass meetings to practice cheers and songs for the games have been held and have been largely attended.

Since the Fall Regatta the University Rowing squad, which has been larger this year than in many years, has been rowing in four crews. These crews were made up so that, as nearly as possible, they should be of equal strength. Practice has been held every day, and much hard work has been given the men. Individual cups have been offered for the winning crew of a race between these four crews. The race is to take place over a two-mile course on the harbor as soon as the weather permits.

A plan has been recently adopted for the Sophomore Class, which is somewhat similar to the Tutorial System at Princeton. The members of the class of 1908 have been allotted to sixteen different groups, each of which is in charge of a member of the Tutorial Board. Sophomores can thus have a man who they may be sure will be interested in anything in which they care to consult him. These supervisors will have no disciplinary powers.

The statement of the Secretary of the University with reference to the registration for this year shows that the total number of regularly enrolled students is 3,239, as against 2,992 last year. This is the largest registration in the history of the University. The largest increases are in the College, Scientific School, Law School, and Graduate School.

In the Spring of 1905 an anonymous graduate of Harvard University gave Yale a fund of $10,000, the income of which was to be devoted to promoting good relations between the Universities. The Yale Corporation decided to use the fund in Securing from time to time lectures and instruction at Yale from men connected with Harvard University. The first lecture was given by President Eliot himself Monday evening on "Resemblances and Differences among the American Universities."
