Secret practice for the university football squad has been held during the past week. On Monday and Tuesday the practice was light, consisting in short scrimmages between the college and scrub teams and practice in catching and running down under punts. Hard practice was given the squad on Wednesday. One touchdown was made by the university against the college team during the practice. For the first time this season Cates, captain of the track team, was tried at left end. Because of the heat on Thursday most of the practice was spent in rudimentary work, only a short scrimmage being held between the university and college teams. The practice was open on Friday afternoon. Two touchdowns were made by the university team. In making the first score, so fast was the play of the first team that 40 yards were gained in five plays. Roome played brilliantly as halfback, and Veeder punted well. W. O. Hitchcock '95, Julian W. Curtiss '79, and F. S. Butterworth '95 assisted the regular coaches.
In the fall track meet, from which all "Y" and nearly all "A. Y. A." men were debarred, the new material in the freshman class was tried out. Among those who made a good showing were G. W. Gibson in the three-quarter mile run.
The sophomore class has elected the following men to the sophomore German committee: chairman, R. B. Shepard, of St. Paul, Minn.; floor manager, G. Auchincloss, of New York City; Robert H. Noyes, of St. Paul, Minn; Harold Stanley, of Great Barrington, Mass.; and J. M. Townsend, of New York City.
Nine crews rowed in the fall regatta on Saturday--six class crews and three club crews. The sophomore crew won the championship by defeating the freshmen and the juniors.
The senior class has elected G. S. Fowler of New Haven to the office of class secretary.
