Listless Hockey Practice.

In a 25-minute practice game yesterday afternoon the University hockey team defeated the second team by a score of 5 to 1. The first team played listlessly, as a result of the effects of Saturday's game, but the team work of the forwards was in general more finished than in any previous practice this season. In stick work, passing and keeping possession of the puck, however, the men were deficient and often very careless. With the exception of Callaway the first team forwards rarely followed back after losing the puck, and until the men learn to follow back quickly and together, the effectiveness of the defense will be seriously impaired. Yesterday afternoon the defense showed fair ability in checking the second team forwards, but Newhall had a tendency to play too far out from his position and was very weak in lifting. Penhallow, at coverpoint on the second team, was fairly accurate in recovering the puck from the opposing forwards, but lifted poorly.
