RED TOP, June 14.--In spite of the rough weather all the crews had the usual morning work today except the four-oar. At 5.30 o'clock the first crew paddled to the lower end of the course against a strong wind and tide in one stretch, at a 28 stroke, and after a rest rowed back to the boathouse keeping the stroke above 29. The second crew joined them at the Navy Yard but the first crew soon gained a length rowing a 31 stroke. The four-oar paced the first crew for the last half-mile and finished well. The first crew finished at a 32 and 33 stroke in the most encouraging spurt of the season. Early this afternoon the Freshman crew rowed three miles up the river. The form of all the crews shows great improvement and the control of the slides is much better but the blade work is still weak.
