The Freshman crew was defeated by one and one-half lengths in the race with the Stone's School crew yesterday over the one and one-half mile course. The time of 7 minutes 52 seconds was slow considering the favorable conditions. The Stone's crew took the lead at the start and at Harvard Bridge had a lead of three-quarters of a length. Although the Freshmen spurted several times, the school eight continued to gain throughout. Both crews were well used up at the finish. The Freshmen rowed a long steady stroke, about 32 to the minute, but they lacked life and leg-drive.
The orders were as follows:
Freshmen--Stroke, Farley; 7, Corbett; 6, Goodale; 5, Richards; 4, Bacon; 3, Sherwin; 2, Hopewell; bow, Tappan; cox., MacColl.
Stone's School--Stroke, MacKay; 7, Elwell; 6, Lloyd; 5, Abbott; 4, Mason; 3. Shepard; 2, Emerson; bow, Dana; cox., Tilton.
