W. J. Shea, of Ottawa, Canada, lacrosse coach for this season, arrived yesterday and will take charge of all lacrosse candidates immediately. On account of the rain there was no practice yesterday but all candidates for class teams will report for practice on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 3 o'clock.
The first game of the season will be played with the College of the City of New York on Soldiers Field next Saturday. A University squad will probably not be picked until next Thursday and in the meantime the men will be coached especially in the development of stick work. The squad will be chosen only provisionally and changes will be freely made in accordance with the ability shown by candidates. After the training in the elementary points of the game. Coach Shea's efforts will be devoted chiefly to the development of swift and effective team work.
