The Freshman baseball team will play the first game of its schedule with the Cambridge Latin School on Soldiers Field next Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Latin School in the games already played showed excellent team work but in batting is weak.
The development of the Freshman team has been disappointing, as little team work has been shown, and the individual playing has been uncertain. These faults have been due partly to the squad being unable to practice outdoors until this week, and partly to the general listlessness among the men. The infielders, with the exception of the battery candidates, are careless in their fielding and their throwing is extremely inaccurate. Although the outfielders are doing good work in judging fly balls, they have not enough spirit and are especially slow in starting after the ball. Several of the battery candidates show promise of fair ability, yet they have not developed as satisfactorily as those in former years. The batting, as evidenced in the practice games of the last two days, is improving very slowly, since the men still have a tendency to stand too far from the plate. The bunting is quite unsatisfactory, both in form and placement.
The entire squad will return for practice Wednesday at 2.30. The team will then be definitely chosen for Saturday's game.
