University and Class Crews.

The University crew squad has been divided into three provisional eights which are rowing on the river in barges. Yesterday they rowed up and down in front of the University boathouse, while Mr. Colson coached from the float. The other members of the University squad rowed in pair-oars.

The stroke is still very slow. A bad "hang" before the catch is noticeable, but this fault is to be expected in the effort to acquire the more deliberate recovery. The launch "John Harvard" will not be used before Monday.

The three provisional crews were made up as follows:

Stroke, Foster, 7, Johnson; 6, Sanger; 5, Derby; 4, Oveson; 3, Judd; 2, Switzer; bow, Lloyd; cox., Montgomery.

Stroke, Smith; 7, duffy; 6, Filley; 5, Lawson; 4, Shuebruk; 3, Gill; 2, Pleasonton; bow, Flint; cox., Ivy.

Storke, Brownell; 7, Kellogg; 6, Shepard; 5, Swaim; 4, Richmond; 3, Durfee; 2, Ober; bow, White; cox., Wiener.

The Senior and Sophomore, crews rowed from the Weld Boat Club yesterday in shells, which Wray coached from a single. Weather conditions were excellent and the crews rowed several stretches between the Western avenue bridge and the cove beyond the Stillman Infirmary. The Juniors remained at the Newell and were coached by Vail from the coxswain's seat.

In this class race this year, which will probably be held on Thursday, April 14 only the first crews from the three upper classes will participate.

The Freshmen are to have a race be themselves, for which purpose their squad will be divided, half going to the Weld and the other half remaining at the Newell.
