The University football team defeated the eleven of the United States Military Academy at West Point in a hard contest last Saturday by the score of 12 to 6. Princeton gave a fine exhibition of football and surpassed West Point in every department of the game. Cooney and Stanard were the most to be depended upon for gains. Cooney scored both touchdowns and kicked the goals, and Stanard repeatedly made gains of five and ten yards through the line. Cooney showed even more speed and aggressiveness than he displayed last year. He has developed excellent ability in kicking goals and has accepted all his chances this season. Princeton's defense, which has been somewhat erratic this year, was exceedingly strong Saturday, and allowed West Point to make first down only once during the entire game. Miller punted well, kicking a distance of 220 yards in five attempts; he also made consistent gains through the line.
The freshman football team was victorious on Saturday, defeating Yale 1908 by a score of 10 to 7. The first score was made when Yale fumbled and Reiter ran forty-five yards for a touchdown. A field goal by Douglas from the thirty yard line completed Princeton's scoring. The Yale team showed a strong attack, and after gaining consistently through the line for the first touchdown, rushed the ball to within one foot of Princeton's goal line, where the team was held for downs, but scored a safety on the next play.
In the junior class elections, held Wednesday, the following officers were chosen: president, W. C. Motter; vice-president, P. S. Secley; secretary and treasurer, F. A. Kline.
The date of the annual sophomore freshman cane spree has been fixed for the evening of November 10.
The final trials to pick the team which will represent Princeton in the coming Princeton-Yale debate, will be held Monday evening.
