The development of the Pennsylvania, team this season has been gradual and fairly consistent. A rather poor showing was made in some of the early games, largely because several of the regular players were, until recently, prohibited by the faculty from joining the team. In fact, the Columbia game a week ago was the first in which Pennsylvania was able to put her strongest team into the field. This game, won by a score of 16 to 0, showed the team strong in many points, but also revealed many faults, which the coaches have since tried to remedy. The line men are individually heavy and strong and, from tackle to tackle, average slightly over 195 pounds. By moving Captain, Torrey from tackle to centre, something has been done to steady the line, but the play has not yet been sufficiently concerted to show its true capability. None of the candidates for end have shown exceptional ability, and in this department the team seems, somewhat weaker than in former years. The back-field, however, is very strong, and should help the ends greatly on the defense. Smith, at fullback, is a reliable ground gainer through the line, and a sure tackle. All three backs. Smith Reynolds and Green, are good panters. Smith being perhaps the steadiest.
For so late in the season, the team is still rather crude. Individually, the positions seem strong, but the men do not help each other as they should. To sum up, the line is heavy and powerful, and with experienced men like Piekar kaki, Kase and Ziegler, has great possibilities. The ends are rather uncertain, but the backfield is heavy and fast, and has good material to rely on
