Yesterday at the Myopia Hunt Club course at Hamilton, six members of the University golf team qualified for the individual championship of the Intercollegiate Golf Association, and five of these, W. E. Egan '05, A. L. White '06, M. McBarney '06, H. C. Egan '05, and F. Ingalls 1L., were left after the first round of match play.
W. E. Egan won the medal for the lowest score in the 18-hole qualifying round with a score of 80, which is two under bogey. Following are the scores of the other fifteen who qualified for the match play: West (Pr.), 81; H. C. Egan '05, 87; Abbott (Y.), 88; Reinhart (Pr.), 89; Willard (Pa.), 90; McBurney '06, 91; Laird (Pr.), 92; Ingalls 1L., 93; Proal '05, 94; Watson (Pa.), 95; Olyphanat (Pr.), 95; Cockran (Pr.), 96; White '06, 96; Rus8sell (Pr.), 97; Topping (Pa.), 97.
The result in the first round of match play were as follows:
W. E. Egan '05 defeated Laird (Pr.), 3 up and 1 to play; White '06 defeated Cockran (Pr.), 2 up; McBurney '06 defeated Olyphant (Pr.), 2 up and 1 to play; Abbott (Y.) defeated Watson (Pa.), 6 up and 4 to play; H. C. Egan '05 defeated Russell; (Pr.), 5 up and 4 to play; Ingalls 1L. defeated Willard (Pa.), 4 up and 2 to play; Reinhart (Pr.), defeated Proal '05, 1 up; West (Pr.), defeated Topping (Pa.), 4 up and 2 to play.
The second and semi-final rounds of match play will be held today. Although four of the University players are unfortunately matched against each other, Harvard's chances of winning are good. The pairings for the second round follow: W. E. Egan 'on vs. White '06; McBurney '05 vs. Abbott (Y.), H. C. Egan '05 vs. Ingalls 1L.; Reinhart (Pr.) vs. West (Pr.).
The finals, at 36 holes, will be played tomorrow.
