Improvement in Basketball.

In fast basketball practice yesterday afternoon, the University team defeated the second team by a score of 28 to 10. After a long preliminary practice of fast passing and rushes down the floor under the direction of F. B. Barnes of the Cambridge Y. M. C. A., two long halves were played.

The first half was noticeable for the strong defense that was developed by the first team, which prevented the second from scoring. Randall and the two forwards played well together and managed to keep the ball continually in the second team's territory. Coach Barnes insisted upon the men playing the ball and not devoting their time in attempts at blocking their opponents.

In the second half the play was slower and showed a tendency to carelessness on the part of the University team. Fumbling was noticeable on both sides and the men showed an inability to keep the ball off the floor.
