The Lampoon.

Work at forced draught seems, in the case of the Lampoon contributors, to bring out their best powers. Certainly the last Lampoon,--another number in the rapid series of issues which seem to be making up time for the long gaps of the winter--is extraordinarily good. The skill with which the centre page drawing of "The Out-door Plays" suggests in a very few lines the expressions of at least two of the players would do credit to a professional artist. In fact all the drawings are good and the reading matter in general quite their equal--or, at least, one thinks so until one comes to the last page. Memorial Hall Jokes are becoming, however, somewhat too state to be any longer pleasant food for reflection, and "Baedeker's Harvard" has outlined its usefulness.

Perhaps the wit of the Lampoon has simply been in want of exercise. If it has been somewhat heavy more than once hitherto, it shows now that it can be very nimble when once awakened.
