Freshman Musical Clubs.

Since the mid-year examinations, the Freshman musical clubs have been practicing steadily for the three spring concerts, which will probably be given during the latter part of May, although no date have yet been decided upon.

While the work of the clubs has greatly improved, still further Congress is almost entirely prevented by the desultory attendance at rehearsals. The material available is very fair in all the chitbs; and if a proper interest were taken in the work, the concerts might be expected to prove successful.

The chief fault of the Glee Club is the weakness of the first tenors, who are unable to carry their theme sufficiently well against the other parts.

S. Davis has been appointed temporary leader, as regular officers will not be elected until about a week before the first concert. The following men are at present singing on the club:

First tenors--G. H. Brainard, M. Kabatchnick, L. R. Coffin; second tenors--C. W. Wickersham, H. B. Sawyer, M. W. Jokling, W. E. Hartwell, A. C. Wilber, E. C. Ingram, C. Mitchell; first basses--O. D. Filley, H. E. Rowley, J. L. White, S. Titcomb, W. S. Parker, F. H. Grey, G. T. Pettengill, L. G. Morris; second basses--H. C. Washburn, F. S. Whitney, A. N. Vanfiiet, L. T. Neale, L. Haggin, J. W. Burden.

The Banjo Club is perhaps the farthest advanced of the three clubs. Although they lack finish, they play very well together. The officers are: President, S. Titcomb; secretary, E. H. Rowley; leader, H. W. Paine. The following are at present playing on the club:

Banjeaurines--J. O. Foss, F. W. Von-Schrader, W. Soule, A. W. Soule, H. W. Paine, R. R. Borden, H. B. Sawyer, H. Williams, W. Williams; banjos--S. Titcomb, J. A. MacCreery, P. H. Noyes, S. W. Webb, H. K. Alden, W. W. Metcalf; guitars--C. T. Ryder, H. E. Rowlely, R. Guitars--C. T. Ryder, H. E. Rowley, R. W. Beach, R. Payson, G. K. Baker.

The Mandolin Club is suffering perhaps the most from small attendance at rehearsals, but is nevertheless improving. It is made up at present as follows:

First mandolins--L. T. Neale, H. A. Osgood, G. E. Stanton, J. L. White, W. Williams, L. Strauss; second mandolins--R. N. Smither, P. Harrington, J. Hinckley, W. Sabine, H. M. Holmes, W. B. Hawkins; third mandolins--L. Gilbert, L. A. Andrus, C. T. Wood, J. Warner; guitars--R. W. Beach, S. Titcomb, H. E. Rowley; violin--F. A. Pemberton.
