The University baseball team will play the Princeton nine this afternoon, at 3 o'clock on Soldiers Field. Last year Princeton defeated Harvard, in a game played in the rain, by a score of 7 to 0; in 1901 no game was played; and in 1900 each won a game, Harvard by the score of 4 to 0, and Princeton by the score of 9 to 2. Although five of last years Princeton team are playing this year the team began the season with no great success, and has met defeat five times. Since the Pennsylvania game however, the team has shown steady improvement. In the box, both stevens last year's pitcher, and Underhill are doing very steady work; and at the bat, the entire team has lately shown improvement. Every indication points therefore to a very close game today.
As a whole, the University team has improved in standing up at the bat, but the men are apt to hit at bad balls, and easily get discouraged. The bunting is still weak, and the base-running lacks head work; while the fielding, although fast is at times unsteady.
