Freshmen, 5; Exeter, 3

The Freshman baseball team defeated Exeter at Exeter yesterday afternoon in a close and exciting game by the score of 5 to 3. Throughout the game the Freshmen exhibited a lack of head work which was very noticeable so late in the season. They were unable to hit at critical times with men on bases and were quite unable to bunt successfully. The base-running was not as good as it has been and at times the fielding was slow. Nichols played a good game at first base, making sixteen put-outs and catching a very difficult ball in right field. Castle pitched fairly well, allowing four hits and two bases on balls, but he fielded his position poorly and was ineffective in watching bases. The Exeter team as a whole was weak, but was remarkably fast in base-running. For Exeter, Flock in left field played a particularly good game both in batting and fielding.

The score by innings:   1  2  3  4  5  6  7  8  9  r.  h.  e. Freshmen,  2  0  0  1  0  1  1  0  x  5  6  5 Exeter,  1  0  1  0  0  1  0  0  0  3  4  4
