The Freshman baseball team defeated the Second nine on Soldiers Field yesterday by the score of 6 to 5.
The Freshmen batted fairly well and showed ability to bunch their hits when necessary; their fielding was marked by accurate throwing to bases and few errors; their base-running, however, was poor. The Second nine showed even more clearly than in the Dean game their remarkable inability to bat, making only three hits in the entire game. Their base-running was creditable, but their fielding slow.
Taylor's pitching was marred by loss of control at times, and he gave six bases on balls, but was effective at critical moments in keeping the Second nine from scoring. Tuckerman pitched well, but allowed four bases on balls. Leonard's timely home run line drive with two men on bases and Nichols's difficult foul catch were features of the game.
