"The Enjoyment of Art."

In an attractive little volume entitled "The Enjoyment of Art," Mr. Carleton Noyes '95, now an instructor in English in the University, discusses ably a problem little considered in most works on music, painting or literature, and yet of importance to any one who would rightly understand and appreciate art--that is, the exact nature and meaning of "a work of art." He explains with clearness and insight that in all its manifestations art is one, in its great purpose of revealing new beauty or deeper harmony. The author successfully attempts to reduce the supposed mysteries of art discussion to the basis of everyday intelligence. The book, written as it is in a pleasantly, simple fashion, free from "the jargon of the schools," should prove of great interest to the college man.
