Delta Upsilon Play.

The Delta Upsilon Fraternity after several weeks of careful rehearsals is maturing its production of "Eastward Ho" to a form that shall carefully reproduce the Elizabethan stage atmosphere with its peculiarities of speech and action.

The plot in the main is as follows:

William Touchstone, a London goldsmith, has two daughters who are exactly the opposite in character. Girtred is ambitious to be a lady, while Mildred is contented with her station. Sir Petronel Flash, an adventurous knight without fortune, applies to Touchstone for the hand of Girtred in order to enrich himself by the sale of the land left the young woman by her grandmother. Mrs. Touchstone and Girtred favor the match and the father unwillingly consents to it. Touchstone has two apprentices as dissimilar in character as are his daughters. Quicksilver, the idle prentice, leaves his master to join Sir Flash in his scheme to grow rich on Girtred's land but Golding remains faithfully at the shop. Perceiving the common affection between Golding and Mildred, Touchstone engages them to each other in marriage. As soon as Girtred's land is transferred into cash with the help of Security, the usurer, and Bramble, the lawyer, she and the knight are married. Sir Flash then disposes of Girtred and her mother by sending them overland to his imaginary castle in the east, while he and Quicksilver hasten out of the country by sea. For the success of the voyage the adventurers are provided with money gained by the sale of Girtred's land to Security and the collection of debts due Touchstone by his customers. With several companions Quicksilver and Sir Flash set out for Virginia. But the schemers are shipwrecked and washed ashore only to be arrested and brought before Golding who is now married to Mildred and become alderman's deputy. Mrs. Touchstone and Girtred who have now returned from their adventure, arge the father to be merciful with Sir Flash. But Touchstone presses the charge of larceny and Golding is obliged to sentence the knight and Quicksilver to prison. Security is also arrested and imprisoned with the rest. Touchstone is apparently inflexible until Golding by a subterfuge conducts him to the prison where, seeing Quicksilver and the knight sincerely repentant, the old man relaxes and forgives all
