M. Mabilleau's Lecture.

The second Cercle Francais lecture was delivered by M. Mabilleau in Sanders Theatre yesterday, on "Le parti conservateur et le clericalisme."

M. Mabilleau began by showing how from the very beginning religion was the first tie of French nationality. Under the old regime Church and State were one, but the great effect of the Revolution was to establish an equilibrium between two distinct social forces. The tendency of the past century has been towards a more complete separation of these powers and the consequent lessening of the influence of religion on politics.
