Much time and ground were lost in starting before the ball was snapped, and the frequent loss of the ball on fumbles by both elevens was a discouraging feature of the practice.
In the preliminary practice, R. P. Kernan '03 gave special coaching on punts to LeMoyne, Nichols and Means. Nichols went through the signals, but did not enter the scrimmage. E. H. Greene '02, who has the center men in charge, coached Carroll in passing the ball.

Pope '05, who is not eligible this year played fullback on the second and proved very reliable on the defense.
The University eleven scored only three touchdowns in a 35-minute scrimmage. Meier making all three scores. LeMoyne got off some good punts, but allowed one to be blocked. The ball changed hands six times on fumbles, and just at the close of the line-up, the first eleven fumbled and lost the ball when within six yards of a touchdown.
