At the service in Appleton Chapel last night Reverend Professor W. W. Fenn preached on "The Power of the Holy Spirit," taking his text from the eighth verse of the first chapter of Acts.
The story of man's life on the earth, he said, is the record of successful quests for power. The man whose power is attained through the Holy Spirit is a man of an open, sincere, and unselfish heart. But he gains most by the alliance of his spirit with the great spirit of the world. By placing himself in unison with this Holy Spirit, he receives the greatest power. The forces of nature, of incarnate righteousness, are in league with him.
There is nothing more lasting than the desire for power. But physical force soon reaches its limit. Intellectual force follows, but that is not supreme. Character is the ultimate power. The power of the Holy Spirit is the power of truth, of justice, of purity, and of love. He who has this power is destined for victory.
