HARVARD, 24; BOWDOIN, 0.

Fast, Aggressive Play in First Half.-- Poor Work at Last of Game.

The University football team defeated Bowdoin on Soldiers Field yesterday in a spirited, but one-sided game, by the score of 24 to 0.

The work of the eleven in the first half was fast and aggressive. In the second half, however, the play lacked fight, and only one touchdown was made, as against three in the first half. Throughout the game, the University team was slow in lining up, Bowdoin repeatedly getting into position before the Harvard men were on their feet. Bowdoin was outweighed and played raggedly both on the offense and defense, but always started quickly, and in the second half took good advantage of the very marked and surprising weakness of the right side of the Harvard line, rushing the ball from the 10-yard line to Harvard's 15-yard line, when time was called.

The backs of the University team started quickly and followed the ball well but the interference was still ragged. On the defense, the team's failure to fight hard when their opponents retained the ball by successive gains recalled one of the worst faults of last year.

Hurley in his first game of the year, played with speed and good judgment. Both he and Nichols picked their openings well, and interfered well for each other. At end, Clothier and Burgess played well; and Montgomery allowed no gains, but was slow in analyzing the opponents' play. Carrick at center showed as before an almost total lack of aggressiveness.
