The University Crew.

The University crews took a short row up-stream yesterday in greatly changed orders, as follows:

First--Stroke, Smith; 7, Bancroft; 6, Shuebruk; 5, Ayer; 4, McGrew; 3, Bullard; 2, Gregg; bow, James; cox., Jackson.

Second--Stroke, Brownell; 7, Colby; 6, Foster; 5, Francis; 4, Swift; 3, Sanger; 2, Derby; bow, Covel; cox., Ivy.

Coach Higginson started up-stream in the launch with the first crew. The men rowed in fours and sixes for about a mile, while Mr. Higginson coached them in starting forward quickly on the recover. When they tried to row all eight, the boat was very unsteady and did not seem to travel well. In a quarter-mile brush with the second on the way down-stream, the second crew beat the first by a length, while rowing the same stroke. In a considerably longer stretch, around the bend to the boat-house, the first had the inside of the curve and finished hardly a length ahead. This weak showing is partly attributed to the fact that the first was using last year's Freshman shell, which proved to be twisted. The 1901 University shell will be used today.
