The University crews took a long, hard row yesterday in short stretches. Dr. J. P. Hutchinson '90, who stroked the '90 University crew, looked over the work of the crews.
At no time during the afternoon was the first crew able to gain materially on the second, and for the most part the second gained steadily on the first. Frequent changes prevented good rowing by either crew.
The crews rowed in the following orders:
First--Stroke, Foster, Brownell, Smith; 7, Francis, Covel; 6, Shuebruk; 5, Bancroft; 4, Swift; 3, McGrew; 2, Bullard, Brownell, Foster; bow, James; cox., Ivy.
Second--Stroke, Brownell Smith; 7, Colby; 6, Smith, Sanger; 5, Gregg; 4, Derby; 3, Francis; 2, Phillips; bow, Hartwell; cox., Otis.
The crews will probably start tomorrow in fresh orders.
