The playing in the international cable chess match between the representatives from Harvard, Columbia, Yale, and Princeton, and those of Oxford and Cambridge was at the end of yesterday's playing slightly in favor of the American universities. E. B. Adams (Y) was easily defeated by his opponent, H. D. Roome (O). In the five unfinished games C. T. Rice (H) and H. A. Keeler (Col) were about even with their opponents, and J. Sawin (Y), T. H. Sewell (Col), and J. B. Hunt (P) had an apparent advantage. The match will be finished today. The English team won the toss and chose the white men on the odd boards. The pairings were as follows:

2. F. H. Sewall (Col) vs. W. Grundy (O).

3. J. Sawin (Y) vs.H.F. Davidson (O).

4. J. B. Hunt (P) vs. F. W. Clarke (C).

5. H. A. Keeler (Col) vs. H. Bateman (C).

6. E. B. Adams (Y) vs. H. D. Roome (O).
