The French play, "Los Vivacities du Capitaine Tie," was presented with great success on Wednesday night by the under graduate French Club. When the play was first decided upon the club found that a suitable American edition could not be procured, so it published one of its own. The reception it received was very encouraging, the entire edition being sold. As last year, the proceeds from the performance will be devoted to a public lectureship fund in French literature.
The sophomores defeated the juniors in the final game of the interclass football series by a score of 5 to 0. The game was very close throughout, the only score being made by a fifty-yard run for a touch-down on a fumble. The final game between the sophomores and the Law School, who won the interdepartment series, will be played as soon as the weather permits.
The prospects for a good crew next spring seem bright. Ten men out of the twelve who rowed at New London in the eight-oar and four-oar last season have returned to college. There is some good substitute material and several strong men from last year's freshman crew should be a strong one, as the fall crews were the best freshman fall crews that have ever been turned out.
The track prospects seem on the whole bright though Yale will be very weak in the sprints and high jump. A dual meet has been arranged with Princeton to be held at New Haven on May 9. This is the second meet that has ever been held between these two univrsities.
The basketball team played its first game against the Meriden Y. M. C. A. on Wednesday night. The final score was 32 to 7 in Yale's favor.
The candidates for the hockey team were called out the first of the week and have been practicing in the Gymnasium. The team will play four games at Pittsburg during the Christmas vacation.
The members of the cross country team which won second place at the intercollegiate meet, have been awarded Y. C. C.'s. All the members, but one, will graduate next spring, necessitating the development of a new team next season.
It has been decided, to allow graduate students to occupy, rooms on, the campus for the next college year. This change has been urged for a long time as an inducement for students to remain in New Haven to continue their work after graduation.
The following officers have been elected for the Freshman Baseball Association: President, A. Parker '06; vice-president, J. G. George '05S.; secretary and treasurer, F. H. Rockwell '06.
The total expenditures of the Yale Field Corporation for the year ending October 1, 1902 were $9,433.30. Of this, $5,502.04 were for general repairs and maintenance of the field, $1,550 for insurance, $600 for a superintendent's salary, $1,500 for additions to the stands, and the remainder for incidental expenses.
