Plan for Commencement Changes.

We invite all members of the University to contribute to this column, but we are not responsible for the sentiments expressed. Every communication must be accompanied by the name of the writer.

To the Editors of the Crimson:

The arrangement of Commencement events has during the last year or two been the subject of much unfavorable comment on the part of graduates and others. As a result of this feeling a Committee was appointed in June, 1901, to draw up a new programme for Commencement and the events connected with it. The suggestion of the Committee was defective in two respects: it contained a conflict with Phi Beta Kappa Day and the boat race, and in addition provided for a baseball game with Yale on the day of the Yale Commencement, which is impossible. Since the condensation of the traditional Commencement week seems advisable for the convenience of graduates, the following suggestion may be of value:

Thursday-Yale game, Senior Spread.

Friday-Class Day (as it is now.)

Saturday-Phi Beta Kappa Day, Senior Class Dinner, Graduate Dinners.

Sunday-Baccalaurcate Sermon.

Monday-Commencement.

Since the baseball game with Yale takes place in Cambridge and the boat race at New London, it has seemed more advisable to include the former; it is impossible to have both within five days.

As this is a subject of the greatest importance to both graduates and undergraduates, it is hoped that this communication will bring about a general expression of opinion and perhaps some suggestions that will bear fruit. A. J. HAMMERSLOUGH.
