At the Geological Conference last night, Professor W. M. Davis lectured on "The Green River Tertiary of Wyoming."
For many years geologists have thought that this region was composed of lacustrine strata, and it is only recently that a theory has been advanced against this view. Professor Davis made a trip to Wyoming last year, and procured enough evidence to warrant a consideration of these later views, although he made a very short examination of the valley. He found ample evidence of fluvial deposits and cross bedding which seem to point to the conclusion that the whole valley was once a shallow lake or flood plain, and not a deep permanent body of water.
