Cross Country Trials Today.

The trials to select the team which will represent the University in the intercollegiate cross country meet, to be held at New York on Wednesday, November 26, will take place this afternoon over the course which has recently been laid out on Soldiers Field. The men will be divided into two squads to prevent crowding at the hurdles, and the most promising candidates will be placed in the first squad, although the trials will be decided entirely on the basis of the time which the men make. The first squad will start at 3 o'clock and the second as soon as the first has finished. Seven men will be retained for the team from the trials, and training for the intercollegiate meet will begin at once.

The distance around the course is 1370 yards and in the trials the candidates will be required to cover eight laps, or six and a quarter miles. The course at New York over which the intercollegiate meet will be run is five miles long.

Inasmuch as the success of the team depends largely on its work as a whole, rather than that of the individual members, the training after today will be directed toward the development of the entire team and will consist both of distance running through the surrounding country and of work on the course.
