SECOND ELEVEN SCORES TWICE.

Defense of University Team Very Weak. Only Five Regular Men Play.

For the first time this season, the University eleven was yesterday scored upon and defeated by the second team; the score was 12 to 6. Both of the second team's touchdowns were made on long runs, one of 65 yards by Parker, who secured the ball on a fumble, and the other by Trott from the middle of the field. The first eleven's one score was made on short rushes after the ball had been secured within 25 yards of the goal line.

Five of the regular members of the team did not take part in the line-up. Graydon and Jones are both incapacitated again by injuries and Bowditch, Barnard and King were given a rest. The latter three will probably play in the Brown game tomorrow but Jones and Graydon may not be sufficiently recovered. Daly's injury, received on Wednesday, will keep him out of the line-up for a week, at least.

The preliminary practice yesterday was taken up largely in going through signals and slow formation plays. Sugden was used at centre, Whitwell at right guard, Clark at left end, and Shea at left tackle in place of Wright. Afterwards the line-men were coached by G. Murchie '95 in playing low, and the ends by F. D. Cochrane '99 in breaking up interference. In the punting practice Kernan and Leonard did some good and fairly consistent kicking. During the line-up against the second team, the defense work was very irregular and far from satisfactory. The line held so poorly that attempts at field goals were twice blocked, and twice Marshall was forced to make hasty and ill-aimed kicks which went wide of the mark. On the offense, the interference was very loose and gave practically on assistance to the man with the ball.

The line-ups: FIRST ELEVEN.  SECOND ELEVEN. Clark, Littig, l.e.  r.e., Crocker, Macdonald Wright, Shea, l.t.  r.t., Oveson, Mason A.
