To the Editors of the Crimson:

One objection to a change in the Sunday hours at the Library has been over-looked; it is in the Library itself, the stack of 350,000 volumes. As this is closed at 5.30 every evening, the authorities should not be expected to take the risk and trouble of opening it on Sunday night; and, if the hours are changed, the stack will not be open, except during the existing hours.

Doubtless many men consult merely the reference shelves upstairs; but they may under the present arrangement take out books over night for evening study, after five o'clock, thus securing them from 1.30 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday. Under the proposed arrangement, the reference shelves would be accessible altogether for only three and a half hours, and the University collection in the stack would not be accessible at all. Those who petition for a change can hardly have taken these facts into account. 1904.
