Freshman Crew Work.

About 95 candidates for the Freshman crew began work in the University boat house yesterday afternoon. Thirty five men reported for the Weld crews and about sixty for the Newell. The men were coached individually and in eights on the rowing machines by R. S. Francis '02, E. E. Smith '02 and H. Bullard '02, and afterwards were given exercise with chest weights. No attempt was made to arrange the men into regular crews.

The work this winter will consist of rowing on the machines, running, and chest-weight drill. The men will gradually begin to be graded into different crews and will be taken out on the river about March 3. The races of the graded crews will not take place until April.
