YALE TODAY.

First Game of the Final Series on Soldiers Field at 2.

The first game of the Harvard-Yale baseball series will be played on Soldiers Field this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Both teams this year are made up largely of experienced players. There are only three men on the Yale nine and two off the Harvard nine who have not played in a Harvard Yale series before.

The Harvard team will go into the game today in the best of condition, and should prove even stronger than last year. Frantz, the only new man in the infield, is very reliable, covers a great deal of ground, and leads the team in batting. Fincke, though he has been playing only a short time this season, shows no falling off in his form since last year. He has almost entirely recovered from his football injury, and today will run bases for the first time this year. Coolidge is playing a hard, steady game at short, and Clark at third shows great improvement over his work last year. The outfield is reliable, but not very fast.

The Yale team has been playing together in its present form for some time. The team has been strengthened this year by the development of Cook and Sharpe as pitchers. Robertson and Garvan have also been successful in the box, so that Yale is very strong in this department. Guernsey covers third well, as he did last year, and Sharpe has improved his play on first. Waddell, who played first two years ago, has learned to play a good game at second, and O'Rourke, at short, though a new man, is a natural ball player. The outfield has not been entirely satisfactory, but has been improving lately. The team in general is rather stronger in the field than at the bat.

Both teams have won an unusually large proportion of their games this year. Harvard has lost only two games, and Yale has been beaten by only two college teams. Although Yale lost the series to Princeton, the playing in the third game served to show the strength rather than the weakness of the Yale team.

The batting orders: Harvard.  Yale. Wendell, l.f.  3b., Guernsey. Clark, 3b.  2b., Waddell. Reid, c.  1b., Sharpe. Frantz, 1b.  p., Cook. Stillman, c.f. or p.  s.s., O'Rourke. Devens, r.f.  r.f., Winslow. Fincke, 2b.  c.f., Eliason. Coolidge, s.s.  c., Hirsh. Clarkson, p. or c.f.  l.f., Robertson.
