A Proposal as to the Date of Commencement.

To the Editors of the Crimson:

Since leaving Harvard it has often occurred to me that Baccalaureate Sunday, Class Day, and Commencement might be brought within three or four days of each other, and thus graduates might be given a greater inducement to go to Cambridge in June than they have at present. As the days are now arranged, there is such a long intermission between the first and last events of the closing year that men who go to the Yale game or are in Cambridge for Class Day often cannot wait till Commencement, and many do not think it worth while to go from a distance for only a day or two, who would be glad to go if the several events could be brought nearer together.

This plan is used at Yale where the dates for this year are as follows: June 23, Baccalaureate Sunday; June 24, Class Day; June 25, Reunions; June 26, Commencement. No insurmountable obstacle to so arranging the Harvard calendar has as yet occurred to me.

Of course it would be impossible to make any changes this year; but if the idea is thought desirable it would seem as though something might be done by 1902. GRADUATE.
